RSS FeedsUFC News: Another Injury Setback For Nate Quarry August 18, 2008 17:38:30
It looks like UFC fighter Nate “The Rock” Quarry will have to sit on the sidelines again after a freak accident left him with a broken eye socket.
Quarry was at a party in Albany, Oregon, where guests were hitting golf balls into a wooded area. Quarry walked straight into the backswing of a young woman, sending the club directly into his left eye. The force of the blow broke Quarry’s Orbital Floor, a bone that keeps the eye in place. Doctors estimate the original cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter” will not be able to compete until November or December at the earliest. Despite the bad turn of luck, Quarry has been a good sport about the whole incident.
Bad news for Nate Quarry who was on a two fight winning streak in the UFC before the accident.
A broken eye socket is a hard injury to recover from, I don’t see him returning any time in 2008.

Evan Tanner’s Biggest Fight Could be The Desert August 18, 2008 16:21:50
After dropping two strait in his UFC comeback and fighting a longtime battle with alcohol, Evan Tanner set’s off on a new great adventure deep into the southern California desert to seek what he calls is “Treasure”. Tanners blog post on SpikeTV details his preparation for his latest wild adventure, including retrofitting his Kawasaki KLR for the trip.
I’m hoping that very soon I’ll be sitting out in the quiet of the desert beneath a deep blue midnight sky, listening to the calm desert breeze. The idea going into the desert came to me soon after I moved to Oceanside. It was motivated by my friend Sara’s talk of treasure hunting and lost gold, and my own insatiable appetite for adventure and exploration. I began to imagine what might be found in the deep reaches of the untracked desert. It became an obsession of sorts.
“Treasure” doesn’t necessarily refer to something material.
Being a minimalist by nature, wanting to carry only the essentials, and being extremely particular, it has been a little difficult to find just the right equipment. I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life.

Affliction News: Vitor Belfort Dropped From Fight With Lindland On Oct. 11 August 15, 2008 15:55:10
After suffering a broken hand at “Affliction Banned“, Vitor Belfort will not be able to fight a the upcoming Affliction 2 “Day of Reckoning” show on Oct. 11, according to Affliction VP Tom Atencio in a interview with MMAWeekly radio.
“Vitor is out, I spoke with him I think yesterday and he told me. Actually, it was on Tuesday we had a conversation for about an hour or so and yeah, I guess he broke his hand in two places is what he told me and he had been having 2, 3 and 4 opinions on it. He finally got the opinion that he wanted I guess and they told him to step out for a while.”
This leaves little time for Affliction to find a replacement to fight Matt “The Law” Lindland on the Oct. 11th card.
Jake Shields spoke earlier in the week that his fight with John Alessio at “EliteXC Showdown” was not a done deal and he is currently fielding an offer by another promotion to fight a top 185lb fighter. Could Affliction be courting Shields to take on the “Law” on the main card? Here’s a clip of what Shields had to say:
“Right now I have a really good offer on the table to fight a top 185-pounder,” Shields stated. “I’m just waiting, hoping Elite (XC) will give me that opportunity to go out there and represent Elite and test myself.

UFC Quote: Dana White Thanks Fedor For Taking Care Of Tim Sylvia August 14, 2008 18:54:06
Harsh words from UFC President Dana White regarding two time Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylva:
“He’s[Fedor] not the best pound-for-pound fighter, not even close, but he’s one of the four or five best heavyweights,” said White, who undoubtedly would be singing Emelianenko’s praises to the heavens the moment he got the stoic Russian’s name on a UFC contract.
“But we all have to thank him[Fedor] for getting rid of Tim Sylvia. He’d been stinking out the joint the last couple of years and Fedor did everyone a favor by beating him so easily and getting rid of him.”

Randy Couture Looking For 6-10 Million To Fight Fedor Emelianenko August 14, 2008 08:27:07
During a recent interview with the former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture on the Adam Carolla Radio Show, the natural stated that he is hoping for a 6-10 million dollar payday for a fight with Affliction’s Fedor Emelianenko. This seems a little far fetched, considering UFC 86 payed out a total of $943,000 to all of the fighters on the card.
They’re still trying to call me the heavyweight champion. I resigned and relinquished the title. Nogueira’s in my opinion the champion now in the UFC…I need to be free and clear of that before I can pursue this fight somewhere else with Fedor (Emelianenko). I’d love for the UFC to step up and make the fight happen. It has the potential to be the biggest mixed martial arts fight to date…It has the potential to do 700,000+ pay-per-view buys which is a helluva lotta money. I think 6-10 [million should be the salary] for each of us and they’re still gonna make a boatload of money on top of that.

His fight with Babalu will be a major step up in competition for the 39 yr old fighter.
